Diploma of Community Development (CHC51402)

 

The Diploma of Community Development is a nationally acredited, Abstudy approved course, offered at no cost to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people based anywhere in Australia.  Recognition of prior learning may be granted on an individual basis.  The course is delivered in block release study periods over two years.

The Diploma focuses on important areas such as economic development, self determination, politics of Aboriginal development and community planning, and will give students a better understanding of the functions and responsibilities of Indigenous-controlled community organisations.  Course participants are encouraged to work on a community based project as part of the assessment for this course.  The Diploma is undertaken on block release over a two year period. 

Course units:
•    Develop new networks
•    Work with other services
•    Implement and monitor OH&S policies and procedures for a workplace
•    Meet statutory and organisational requirements
•    Undertake research activities
•    Manage research activities
•    Develop, implement and promote effective communication techniques
•    Develop and implement effective community programs
•    Develop community resources
•    Undertake systems advocacy
•    Respond holistically to client issues
•    Support community action
•    Support community leadership
•    Plan and conduct group activities
•    Provide community education projects
•    Devise and conduct community consultation
•    Implement a community development strategy
•    Develop and implement policy

Graduates of this course will be qualified to enter a range of positions within Indigenous community controlled organisations and other agencies, government and non-government, engaged in Indigenous community development work.
